Often I find that fabrics and flosses are given names that may miss the mark a bit for me. Colors aren't the easiest things to describe. I know I can't rely on a computer monitor to give accurate color depictions. I do my needlework shopping online because that's the only way I am able to. When I do my ordering, I try to expect a range of color when it comes to my fabric and floss. With a name like "Tarnished Silver" I assume I'm going to get a grayish tone, not a clear middle-of-the road gray. A tarnished spoon or a tarnished piece of jewelry with have a hard to describe darkish cast. The fabric I received in this case was more of a pastel-ish grayish lavender. More medium light gray than lavender, but with a pale lavender "blush." I wouldn't call it a straight plain gray at all. It is pretty, to be sure, but the name doesn't really work. I would say that poetic license is at play in this case. I actually wouldn't dare to trying naming it myself! Pastel gray? Easter morning fog? Not easy to describe! Now I know what Lakeside Linens means by the phrase that it chooses to describe this particular color of their hand-dyed fabric, should I need to order more of this fabric. And the next time I order it, the color may be somewhat different so it goes with hand-dyed. I am not disappointed in this purchase and I didn't have a project already chosen for it. It was purely a learning experience, since there are so many "grays" out there to chose from. I've started to review many of my purchases at 123 Stitch to try to help other stitchers learn from my shopping experiences. I have benefited from other people's reviews, too, so I am trying to return the favor as well. I hope all of that helps!
