I received 2 emails supposedly from the Social Security Administration. It gave me a link to view my updated benefits. Silly me clicked on the link and it immediately came up as Host Error message. Host ended in .es (Spain) and not gov. It then occurred to me this is phishing attempt. Sure enough, the sender email was clearly NOT ssa.gov.

Be aware!

Thanks for the alert!
Sometimes when you get a text/email that makes you go hmmmm, it's better to open another tab and sign into the "official" website.
I hope none of your SSA information was compromised

Any legit email I get from them is also in my account via the message center so I just go right to that and check. Mary

Lisa, I never actually signed in so the phishing site would not have captured my login and PW. The email was very official-looking so it can clearly catch you off guard.

I'm glad you realized the scam before you signed in. I think I terminated my account years ago when someone was trying to hack into all sites related to DH. We have things locked down as much as possible now.

I hate to mention this but just having clicked on the link itself may have given them the opportunity to install malware. I would get my computer/cell/tablet (whichever you used) checked for it to be removed before using it for any personal business.

There's another related post, "Am victim of fraud", currently on the MB that you might be interested in. You might also be interested in looking at this:

I read smething awhile back that said sometime this year they were going to make ALL of us use the computer for all of our SS stuff, even us old folks who don't know our way around the computer very well.Scary.I don't want to have to do everything on a computer or the phone, and for me the phone is even worse.

Acraftylady, sometimes you need to talk to a real person in person because not all you need to ask is online. And ones that doesn't have a computer why push someone to buy one. My husband does not use the computer. never have and never will. So he will be the one that will need to talk to a person.

Suggestion: if in doubt contact and/or go into your local SS office and show them the phishing message you received. Be sure to take your drivers license since many social security offices have security.
