This is a very old recipe. Made it today and I had forgotten how refreshing it is. You can make it with all sugar-free or no sugar added ingredients if you wish. Makes it good for diabetics. You can use it as a salad or a dessert. We've used it as a topping for angel food cake, very good. Versatile as flavors of jello and/or fruit can be changed.1 large container small curd cottage cheese
8 oz. Cool Whip, thawed
1 regular sized fruit cocktail, very well drained
1 tall can mandarin oranges, very well drained
1 regular sized orange jelloCombine all in large bowl, using a slow folding motion until well combined. Refrigerate 1 or 2 hours. Enjoy.

Thank you for sharing. Looks delicious. 🙂I used to make something similar that used dry jello, cottage cheese, whip cream and applesauce. Been awhile since making it so I might be missing an ingredient or two.
Again, thank you for sharing. I made a copy of it.

Sounds good - my mom would love this! Could you suggest a substitute for the cottage cheese as I am not a fan. Maybe plain Greek yogurt?Thank you,

I've made several different ones of these over the years and i like them all, however i have never used applesauce in any of them. Now you've got me wondering how that would taste,Abbie.Laura,i love cottage cheese, plain, with cut up tomatoes,or pineapple,or if i don't have tomatoes, will use salsa.even like it just plain with some crackers. However dh doesn't like it,nor does he like sour cream,or yogurt, picky man!!

Kathi, it is good. First had it when a church member brought the dish to a church potluck. He used orange jello.I, too, like cottage cheese with tomatoes topped with a wee bit of Western dressing. Also like cottage cheese with thawed frozen peas, plain.

My mum always referred to it as Dump Salad. You dump in all the ingredients and stir. :D

Hello everyone! Thank you for posting this recipe!
I love cottage cheese in salad or plain.
Here is a recipe I make regularly in the warmer months. I have been making this salad for years now.
Cottage Cheese Salad
Dissolve I small pkg lime or lemon jello I 1 cup boiling water. (I use lime)
Dissolve well and add 1 small carton cottage cheeseAdd a few stalks of celery finely chopped, a couple of small carrots grated, and 2 or 3 sliced up green onions.. Add veggies to your taste preference.
In separate bowl mix and add
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup mayonnaise ( not Miracle Whip)Mix with the jello mixture and veggies. Stir well and refrigerate till set.
Hope you enjoy this as much as our family does.God Bless

Tagging on to this thread--this Jello salad was a family favorite when I was growing up. My grandma had it on the buffet at almost every gathering.1 large package (or 2 small) lime Jello
2 Cups boiling water
1 can sweetened condensed milk
16 oz small curd cottage cheese
1 can crushed pineapple or fruit cocktail, drained
1/2 Cup chopped walnuts (I've subbed pecans)Mix Jello and water until Jello dissolves, and let mixture cool. Add remaining ingredients. Chill until set and serve.
