My summer project is to knit dorm boots & slippers for Logan to take to the free student pantry in the fall. (I'm thinking that the floors & carpets probably get grubby pretty quickly.) I'm also trying hard to radically downsize my yarn stash - bulky first.
Using a 328-yd ball of Premiere "Puzzle", the first pair is finished. Not confident that there was enough remaining for another pair, I knitted one of Taiga Hilliard's free newborn "Wee" vests, then a matching beanie, booties & scratch mittens. There's still yarn left! Maybe enough for another NB hat, but the rest goes in a scrap bag. Will be stash diving for a new ball of bulky after dinner.

Cindy, I think that it's great you're doing this, even while claiming to whittle down your stash. I am so slow at everything, that I despair of finishing things for myself, much less doing things for charity. My sisters joke that "fast" is not even in my vocabulary, lol.Darlene in No Va

Hi, Cindy!
What a FABULOUS IDEA to knit boots/socks! Would you mind sharing your pattern? I'm intrigued about doing something like that myself. I'm not a fast knitter and would probably need help finishing them, but I'm getting tired of knitting dishcloths.Love,

I never thought about knitting for students in need! I will look into that.

Carol, I'll be experimenting with several patterns, and there are *many* freebies on Ravelry to choose from. All of those listed are free & easy. Many call for 2 strands of worsted held together (to make bulky weight). Some have multiple sizes, including mens'. Those in French have English translations.
The ones I just finished are "Booties for Grownups" by Frankie Brown, written for bulky.I plan to try:
"Better Dorm Boots" (several versions of this one) by Kris Basta
"Really Easy Basic Slippers" by AsJa Sweden
"Chaussons pour les adultes" by Aglae' Laser
"Pantoufles Bottillons" & "Easy Knit Slippers" by
3petitesmailles (she has a bunch of patterns!)
"Family Foot-Warmer Slippers" by Anne Baron
and some of the old-school "Grandma slippers", of which there are many. (I also need to review & cull the slipper patterns in my Ravelry Library again.)
