The Vlachernai Peacocks cross stitch folk embroidery kit is a gloriously regal design featuring confronted peacocks, a symbol of renewal and rebirth deeply embedded in Byzantine art and especially associated with the imperial palace of Vlachernai in Constantinople. The peacocks rest atop a border of overlapping diamonds, ornamented with a graceful outer border of leaves and stars, worked in a jewel-tone palette of deep turquoise, light turquoise, ruby red, and golden olive that showcases its regal inspiration.
The confronted peacock is one of the great motifs of Byzantine decorative art, appearing in mosaics, textiles, and manuscript illumination across centuries, and this design brings that magnificent tradition into a cross stitch table runner that is wonderfully suitable to stitch as a prized heirloom.
