Cross stitch pattern from NeedleWorkPress featuring an antique sampler reproduction. Ellen's sampler brings to life a variety of flora and fauna that an 11-year-old might have observed in her surroundings back in 1870. We are so excited to recreate a well-used and tattered watch pocket that no doubt held a lady's watch from bygone days. Although we have been unable to identify our sampler maker, she definitely knew her geography. Harriet accurately listed the states and territories of the date she stitched in her sampler. Even though the antique sampler is in a tattered state, we are especially happy to preserve Harriet's legacy by recreating her sampler to be enjoyed today.

In adapting this sampler to be stitched over one and two threads of linen - instead of 1, 2, 3, and 4 as stitched by Mary - we endeavored to remain true to her composition while creating a more "stitchable" sampler. While the antique is framed, we decided to hemstitch our sampler. We are fortunate that Mary included her age, middle initial and the date she stitched her sampler.
