While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I loved working on this super cute snowman pattern. It’s simply gorgeous when finished and it comes with all the supplies. Only taking away a star because I wish the thread came organized by DMC number, not unsorted. Has several very similar colors and I would not have been able to sort them correctly if I hadn’t already had all the same colors in my stash to match them too.

I hope every year that there are new Jim Shore ornaments and so far I haven’t been disappointed with them. They instructions are easy to understand and I find that perforated paper is fun to work with. It makes finishing the ornament easy. I use scrapbooking paper to back them with cord as a hanger.
