While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

The kit includes two good-quality needles for stitching and beading. The threads were not sorted so it may be a bit confusing to distinguish the three yellow colors for some people. It was easy otherwise. It also included DMC thread numbers so it is totally possible to make it again with or without beading on 14ct.

This one is quick and simple to do because of only a few colors and beads. The only thing to be mindful about is there are two different size black beads that are a bit challenging to see when stitching in place.

I have just finished making this kit, and I am in love with it. Mill Hill kits are always quick, easy, and fun to make. I hope that Mill Hill does some Gnome designs for their Christmas ornaments someday.
