While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I love the design and was moving quickly, but ran into trouble once I started adding the petit beads. The supplied beading needle was too big to get through the tiniest beads and I ended up having to use a wire needle, which is much slower than a rigid needle. I still love the finished project, but I'm not gunning to do the whole set anymore.

Absolutely loved them both. They are Xmas gifts for my son. I try to do one handmade ornament a year for each of my 2 sons that is individual to each. The quickness of the delivery after ordering was impressive also
