Designer: Violets And Sunshine
Item: 25-2925
Type: Cross Stitch Patterns
While I have been unable to determine with certainty who Mary Maynard was (there are at least three young ladies who could have been the Mary of our sampler), it is clear that in 1797 she stitched a beautiful sampler filled with colors, motifs, patterned dividers, and selections from section 7 of Alexander Pope's "An Essay on Man". Most of her sampler is executed in cross stitch over two linen threads. However, her name and date, the selections from Pope, and a number of alphabets and dividers were stitched in black silk using full crosses over one linen thread.
The model for this sampler was stitched on 46 count Marble Pointer linen by xJu Designs in the called from 100.3 and Soie Surfine silks by Au Ver Soie. Stitch Count: 272w x 319h.
