from United States on 12/01/2023 - Unmet expecation I've been doing blackwork using cotton floss but wanted to try a more historical approach and use black silk thread. I was disappointed to discover immediately that this thread readily splits and frays, slips from the needle while stitching, and knots whenever a bit of stitching needs to be undone, so that rather than carefully going back through the stitched holes to undo a section of work with the thread intact, the knotting means cutting and pulling the stitches for as much as an hour to undo a relatively small area of work. In addition, the thread, although least important to me, has no luster at all, so it looks like ordinary cotton floss, in which case I'd have been happier with the latter type of embroidery thread. I do not recommend this thread. I hasten to add this shop is otherwise wonderful, and the merlot floss I've purchased has been just great. It may be that just this batch of silk thread is inferior.
from United States on 12/17/2022 - Expectations not met Having purchased a couple of different silk threads over time for embroidery and slow-stitching projects, I had higher expectations for this d'Alger. The look of the thread is more primitive, having no sheen, and looks much like the unwaxed linen threads I use. And it frays when splitting plys. I wanted to use this for a blackwork embroidery portrait, but ended up switching over to DMC 6-strand floss. Will not be purchasing this brand again.
