The Crimson Peony cross stitch folk embroidery pattern features a stylized peony motif found across many folk embroidery traditions, stitched as an intricate border with highlights of gold and alizarin. Finished as a lined drawstring bag with coordinating Liberty Tana Lawn, it's a small project that makes a beautiful gift or a lovely item to keep for yourself. I love this lining--my first textile loves were Arts and Crafts textiles and the Lodden lining is inspired by those gorgeous textiles.
The peony is one of those motifs that appears wherever embroidery flourishes - from Eastern Europe to the Mediterranean to East Asia - each tradition putting its own stamp on a flower that seems made for needlework.
Stitched on 30 ct. European Linen in Vanilla with DMC floss. The stitch count is 46 x 105 and the finished size is 8" x 10.5".
