While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:

1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.

2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.

3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.

All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I was so excited to see the line of Christmas Santas from Jim Shore. I purchased this one and am thrilled with the results. The colors and personality are perfect for my Cross Stitch Christmas Tree. I plan to buy all available Santas from this collection.

It's a good little kit that comes with a very ample amount of thread and beads I estimate nearly enough to create two of the pattern and both needles necessary. I'm glad that they give the DMC numbers for each thread color, because it made the process of sorting and organizing them on a project card much faster, and gave me confidence that if I ever screwed up, I could easily use my own collection of thread instead.
