While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 01/02/2024 - Fun and easy to follow This is my first project completed on punched paper, and the first time I've done a project with beading. I really enjoyed it and would absolutely do it again! The instructions are very clear and detailed, and the pattern was easy to read. I did have a bit of a problem with missing stitches on the pattern that were under backstitched lines, as they didn't stand out clearly like other stitches. I would have liked a version of the pattern without the backstitch so that I could use that to stitch from until it was time to add the backstitch. But I was able to go back and add the missing stitches once I realized it, so it turned out perfectly fine! As long as you follow the instructions about what order to do the stitches, backstitches, and beading, it will turn out beautiful. I created a floss loop and added a fabric backing with iron-on hem tape to make this into an ornament. Lovely, and I will keep an eye out for other Mill Hill kits! :)
