from United States on 08/10/2025 - A Present for My Sister This rather delicate looking sampler is clearly charted with 2 extra pages of charting to allow for substitutions for "sister" with cousin, mother, friend, etc. The designers note that most of the sampler is stitched over one thread. There are additional explanations in color on the back cover to aid the stitcher. I am not very experienced in using silk threads, but this project is tempting me to make the effort.

Pattern is stitched on 35 ct Dark Cappicciono from R&R Reproductions using Gloriana Silk threads (Swamp Grass). Stitch count is 179 x 185. If stitching on a lower count, two skeins of floss would be needed.

I am delighted to share this antique with you. It is from 1840 of Dutch origin. The sampler had lots of great motifs and I loved the top rows of crowns and shields, but the composition did not please me, it had large blank spots on it. I saw this piece as more enjoyable in the vertical format as... Read more

Note from the designer: A quick look at the original samplers and we can be quite certain Isabella and M. were sisters and may very well have stitched these together. Both marked them with their village of Eddleston(e) in Scotland, but most of all, they are so very similar in many ways - color,... Read more
