It is wide and heavy and I purchased it as a frame for my embroidered picture. It really looks nice displayed on the wall. I would not use this hoop for working on any needlework because of the weight and thickness.

I used the hoop to frame a cross stitch as a gift for my friends of their cat that passed away. Though it brought fresh tears to their eyes they really loved it! The quality of the wood along with the brass hardware really made a statement. I will seek this out if I have a future need.
