Note from the designer: "Hannah Mosher was born March 12th, 1786, in Hollis, New Hampshire, the fourth and last child of Abijah and Hannah Mosher. On March 7, 1813, she married the Rev. Walter Chapin of Woodstock, Vermont. Apart from this sketchy biographical information, found in the History of the Town of Hollis, New Hampshire from its First Settlement to the Year 1879 by Samuel T. Worcester, little else is known of Hannah.

The overall shape and format of the sampler is similar to other contemporary New England samplers, including the multiple borders of sawtooth counted satin stitch, Greek key, and the stylized carnations, as well as the exuberant flowerpot motif at the bottom. The verse also appears on many other late eighteenth century New England samplers.

Finished size on 25 count linen is 16 1/2" x 14". Stitches used: cross, satin, eyelet, stem.
