It gives a more subtle appearance to the fine stitching on applique than some of the heavier fibers like pearl cotton.

The skein I received was not as variegated as the photo, but it's a lovely thread. Bright, but not traffic cone bright. Perfect color for a snowman's carrot nose or a pumpkin.
