Hand Over-Dyed Floss, Sold in 5 yard Skeins. The colors are variegated enough to be noticeable, yet subtle enough to blend naturally. Because it is pliable, this fiber is perfect for cross stitch and needlepoint on many different counts of fabric and canvas. It is also works great for punch needle (1, 3 and 6 strand) and stitching on wool applique and penny rugs. It gives a more subtle appearance to the fine stitching on applique than some of the heavier fibers like pearl cotton.

Mascara is very dark, with little variation. It is called for in Plum Street's Blackbird Fraktur. It is used for the candlestick center piece.

I have started a piece that calls for mostly Weeks Dye Works floss, I love it! The color variation is great, making everything look more natural. Also, this floss doesnt have a tendency to knot like DMC does.

First time I've ever worked with these threads lovely black, fills in better than DMC, and lays much flatter. Using DMC next to it is impossible - DMC looks bulky and wonky while this looks beautiful. Doesn't tangle, very rarely knots - when it does, it's always easy to undo. Won me over!

So many black threads which 2 use? I like Weeks Dye black threads, many to choose from and some have great variations.But for straight black I like Mascara although Pea coat is also a fun black.

I have always disliked using DMC 310 because of its so thin, so this color works well when having to use black.

Why use this instead of using the less expensive black, DMC 310? Because I find that it fills tge fabric squares much better and makes a black silhouette stand up for itself against a colored fabric!
