Anne Frances Ennis 1853 Black Crowns Specimen Page, An Irish Antique Sampler Reproduction

About Anne Frances Ennisfs specimen pages and cross stitch samplers: A collection of six needlework specimens were obtained together from an antique dealer, five being needlework specimen book samples, and one a diminutive bonnet. Three of the needlework samplers have the name Anne Frances Ennis: the oldest one being this colorful sampler with words to live by filling the body of the sampler dated April 1846, one is black with crowns, numbers, lettering and specialty stitches like running, buttonhole, etc. dated 1853 and marked class H (the top part was not charted), another is green with specialty stitches inscribed Anne F. Ennis 1851, and one is inscribed A. Kirkpatrick with the number 11. Assuming the word Ennis is the town where she lived, a records search for Anne Frances Kirkpatrick indicates a strong possibility of our Anne being born about 1833 in Drumclift, County Clare, Ireland and passing away at the age of 68 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania around February 12, 1901, having never married. We are left to wonder more about her life and how she used her lovely specimens.

Pattern is stitched on 40 ct. linen with DMC floss. The stitch count is 118 x 101 and the finished size is 5.9" x 5.05".
