However, the slit to hold the floss is too thick and doesn't hold the floss in place anymore.

The slits at the bottom are wider and does not hold the thread in place ....now you have to wrap the thread two time through the slits to keep it secure. DMC is getting cheap in the manufacturing of these items thus saving them money but making the consumer suffer.
