While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:

1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.

2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.

3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.

All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

This boot was a lot of fun to stitch. I think it actually looks better after it is stitch than the picture of it. The beads are picked up with the backstitching as you go along to help give it that strand of Christmas lights look. When I did the swags, the gold beads on the tree, I chose to put 5 beads on each instead of the 4 that the pattern directions said. To me it gave them a little more "swag" look, but that is a personal preference. I have also chose to make a bead strand for hanging it on the tree. Definitely going to make a cute ornament!!
