While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:

1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.

2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.

3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.

All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

Very pretty. The one problem I had it was to come with two bell charms and I received only one. I beaded as berry in one of the charms place. Very pretty. The one problem I had was it was to come with two bell charms and I received only one. I beaded a berry in place of a charm. It would have been prettier with two charms.

I must note that I've done quite a few Mill Hill ornaments with no issues whatsoever they are generally high quality products. I have to take exception with this mandolin, however. The size 15 petite green seed beads had multiple defects, where they would not fit on the needle for a full cross stitch. They got stuck, and were impossible to pull through. Very frustrating having to take stuck beads off in multiple instances. There are ample beads provided, so the defective ones were replaceable, but it was a pain. That said, I have not had this problem with any other Mill Hill ornament to date.
