Designer: Mill Hill
Manufacturer: Mill Hill
Item: MH18-8303
Type: Cross Stitch Kits

Kit Includes: Beads, treasures, 14ct perforated paper/pvc, floss, needles, chart and instructions. Finished size: 3" x 4.5"

While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:

1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.

2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.

3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.

All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

These kits have great instructions and work up nicely! Something for the young dancer who is in the nutcracker ballet! Wish there were more of these in the series!!!

I enlarged the design, cut and pasted the two pieces together and stitched the Mouse King on one piece of 14 count brown perforated paper. I use a black floss running stitch to fasten the finished cross stitch onto a matching piece of perforated paper. I also substitute colored floss for the beads and use black floss to outline the different areas. I don't think many people enjoy stitching two smaller pieces of paper together when one larger piece of paper seems superior.

My granddaughter is this character for the second year. I jumped at the chance to make it for her. He/she was so much fun to stitch and just a pleasure to do with much other stuff going on, it took only 4 days to do. Instructions were clear and I can't wait to start on the Nutcracker and Fairy Queen. I only hope I can get them all finished by Dec. 12, when we go see Hannah dance.
