While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 05/25/2025 - Seed bead needle The kit is nice, but the needle for the seed beads is close to impossible to thread with 2 strands of floss. The eye is so tiny that no threader will fit and even with perfect vision and a large magnifier getting two threads through is a nightmare!

from United States on 12/30/2018 The ornament was lovely when it was finished. I just found it very difficult on the dark blue paper. It was hard to see where I had already stitched the dark blue stitches. Overall, it was really worth the effort.
