While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:

1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.

2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.

3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.

All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I love Mill Hill Kits. I have made so many, too many to count. The size is perfect and the instruction are easy to understand. They are not stingy with the thread or beads so you do not have to be overly concerned that you won't have enough to finish. I have purchased other kits, other manufacturers where they have shorted me in the kit and I will not forget who they are as it takes the pleasure out of making the item. The ONLY downside to Mill Hill is they do not identify the colors and sometimes it takes me an hour to decide which color is which due to the shading in their kits.
