The tightening mechanism looks odd, but it works great--easy on the fingers. The 9 inch is also a really good size for my project, so I don't have to keep moving the hoop as often.

I hesitated to try it because the tightening mechanism looked bulky, but the hoop is lightweight, easy to use, very kind to the fabric and stitches, and excellent at maintaining the correct tension. I highly recommend all sizes of this wonderful hoop for all types of stitching on fabric!
