Here is a dainty and colorful mid-eighteenth-century English sampler executed entirely in cross and petit point stitches making it a suitable project for any skill level.
A four-sided arcaded border of daisies and dianthus surrounds three pious verses with delicate horizontal floral bands between them, and at the bottom is a vase of lilies bearing the attribution and the date of completion. Green parrots flank the bouquet. Parrots were popular pets in England at that time, partly due to their colorful feathers as well as their ability to mimic human speech. The parrots illustrated on this sampler resemble Amazon parrots, one of the most common and popular pets because it was so easily tamed, and a good talker. Amazon parrots have a green body with yellow and red feathers on their heads, tails and wings.
On 40-count linen, the reproduction will most closely approximate the size of the original at 17" x 17". The chart is in booklet format, printed in full color with symbols. Stitch count is 341 x 336.
