Florence May Piggin 1889 is a reproduction of an original red thread sampler in our collection from Braintree, Essex in the South East of England.
The pattern for Florence's sampler stitch count is 224 x 76 stitches and our model is stitched using 1 strand of floss over 2 linen threads on 36ct linen. We have used Au Ver Soie, Soie d'Alger silk for our model stitch but we include a DMC conversion. The finished size on 36ct fabric measures approximately 12 1/2" x 4 1/4" (31.8 x 10.8cm).
There are no speciality stitches so this pattern is suitable for stitching on either linen or Aida.
The sampler is suitable for needleworkers of all abilities and contains no speciality stitches. May be stitched on linen or Aida Cloth.

A banner from Needlework Press featuring alphabets! Model was stitched on 40 count Paperbark hand dyed linen from Fox & Rabbit and stitched with silks from Soie 100/3. DMC conversion is included in the chart. Stitch count is 436 x 40. Finished size is 21.8" x 2".
