Pattern is stitched on 35 ct linen using Soie d'Alger silk threads with DMC conversion. Stitch count is 276 x 255. Finished size is 15.77" x 14.57".
This is a very fine example of an early northern Dutch sampler called a letterndoek, or alphabet sampler. The illuminated letters are typical of northern Holland needleworks. Symbolic spot motifs include dogs, a stag, trees of life, and paired birds.

Model stitched on 36 ct Straw from Weeks Dye Works using Weeks Dye Works threads. Stitch count is 298w x 366h. Finished size is 16.56" x 20.33".
The motif on this piece was taken from an antique Dutch sampler. This piece inspired the English Garden Sampler. Kit contains linen, thread, calico fabric, and ribbon.
Not only do I love the colors Agness used to stitch her sampler but I love how she ran out of room to stitch the date 1844 so she moved the last 4 up to another line.
