This is #10 in the Little Sampler Series. It is adapted from the Dutch 1808 Sampler reproduced from an antique sampler.

Pattern is stitched on 40 ct Mayflower linen from Fox and Rabbit using Au Ver A Soie 100.3 Silks. Stitch Count is 115 wide by 79 high.

This reproduction sampler features a lovely floral border, and motifs surrounding a French verse. Stitched on 32 count Cream linen using DMC threads. Stitch Count: 246W x 231H. Finished size is 15.4 x 14.4 for 32 count fabric.

This is a very fine example of an early northern Dutch sampler called a letterndoek, or alphabet sampler. The illuminated letters are typical of northern Holland needleworks. Symbolic spot motifs include dogs, a stag, trees of life, and paired birds.
