While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

I usually love Mill Hill and have done a number of their kits, but have found this one frustrating. A few of the stitches on the chart were very hard to read, and I found that the petite pink beads seemed to be extra petite, and have even bent the beading needle trying to stitch them on correctly.

Very lovely kit. I always work from the center out and do large white areas last and then put the white beads on first to keep my fingers from touching the white cross stitch. I have been buying these kits since around 1995.
