While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

Then realized it might be a nice teacher gift also... dilemma!Anyway, these are adorable kits, great for pins or ornaments. Perfect to do while waiting.. for kids lessons, games, dr office, etc. The bead part is more fiddly, so need a table. Includes needles but I buy a finer xstitch needle. Extra beading needles are handy as I have broken one before. Too Cute!
from United States on 08/31/2017 - Picture for this Beaded Ornament does not do it justice From start to finish, it took me 4 hours to do and I had a lot of fun. I want to point out that the picture is great for this, but it does not do it justice at all. The colors pop especially with all the bead work once it is added and just gives it that additional oomph that the picture does not show.
from United States on 03/24/2017 - Beautiful Love this ornament. It worked well, but you have to pay careful attention to the chart. A friend saw it and is trying to talk me out of it. If I want to have one, I'll have to do another. Just stitched the second one ant think it's better than the first. Have to order more supplies to finish it.

It was missing one color thread but gave me two colors of thread not needed in the kit. However, I had the correct threads in my supply so no big problem. Looks great as a finished product.
