from United States on 05/01/2023 - Superior Printed Charts While I ordinarily stitch from PDF charts, Hands Across the Sea Samplers has the best printed charts I've used, "hands down". They're large enough to be easy to read and have clearly defined and differentiated color symbols. The narrative histories included are an added bonus. They are beautiful charts.

Note from the designer - "Scottish samplers are often easily identified by their color palette: intense shades of red, green, and pink, as well as by clusters or rows of initials of family members. This small sampler includes motifs usually seen on earlier samplers of the late seventeenth... Read more
Note from the designer: "This partial German band sampler (the lower half was evidently removed at some point in its journey to the 21st century) was probably made in Saxony, in the area of Dresden, as the style resembles others that The Scarlet Letter have reproduced from that region (titled... Note from the designer: "This naive Adam and Eve sampler might have been made in Maryland around 1810. At first I believed that the sampler was either English or Irish, judging by the unusual surname, until, in my research, I came upon the gravestone of a Fanny H. Peachey, born 24 November 1799,... Note from the designer: "This Scottish sampler is a riot of brilliant color and intricate motifs, from the Scotsman in his kilt playing a traditional dulcimer (which looks like a butter churn) in the upper left, to an elaborate mansion house fronted by a three dimensional turkeywork lawn in the... Note from the designer - "This little needlework was likely made as a panel of a "huswif"/aka a "housewife", which was an embroidered, double-sided vertical series of pockets made to hold needleworking supplies. It could be folded up or hung from a peg for swift access to the... Read more
Note from the designer: "This finely worked sampler features pastoral scenes above and below a lovely verse about friendship. A four-sided honeysuckle border surrounds large baskets of fruits and flowers, a fenced pasture with seven large lazy sheep and an architectural folly in the background.... Read more

Note from the designer - "Several band samplers very similar to this one are in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London as well as in other important collections. This particular sampler came from the collection of The Scarlet Letter, and is now in a private collection. A... Read more
Note from the designer - "This band sampler begins with a cut and drawn thread pattern of birds derived from Frederico de Vinciolo's 1587 pattern book, followed by a counted thread satin stitch whitework section. The man and woman flanking the tree have detached buttonhole stitch collars and... Read more

Note from the designer - This needlework was designed after an English sampler in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts-Boston. "Jesus permit thy Gracious name to stand as the first effort of an infant hand. And while her fingers on the canvas move, engage her tender thoughts to seek thy love. With thy dear children, let her have a part and write thy name thyself upon her heart."
Note from the designer - "This sampler was designed after a piece stitched in eastern Massachusetts in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. An ancestor of the stitcher placed a typewritten note on the back of the framed sampler, dated August 28, 1997. Thomasina Henrietta Jackson (nee Willis) wrote the following: "This sampler was made by Charlotte Keightley, my great aunt by marriage, circa 1840. Her married name at the time was... Read more
I am delighted to share this antique with you. It is from 1840 of Dutch origin. The sampler had lots of great motifs and I loved the top rows of crowns and shields, but the composition did not please me, it had large blank spots on it. I saw this piece as more enjoyable in the vertical format as... Read more
