Elizabeth Worgor 1769 is a reproduction of an original antique sampler currently housed in a private collection, and is in remarkably good shape for its 254 years.
Elizabeth executed her sampler in a combination of cross and Algerian eye stitches in a variety of colors, alphabets, and band styles. The model was stitched on 40 count Patriot's Brew linen by R & R Reproductions using Au Ver Soie 100/3 silk threads. Stitch Count: 97w X193h
Collected from German, Italian, Scottish, Dutch, English, and American samplers, this book of alphabets takes off from where the previous edition, Alphabets from Early Samplers, ends. The alphabets have been fastidiously reproduced from samplers dating from 1530, to 1868. Over 80 alphabets are charted, as well as two complete alphabet samplers, one of them dating from 1725.
This antique sampler is inspired by a french designer with Christian imagery.
The model was stitched on 36 count Summer Khaki linen from Zweigart, with 1 ply of Weeks Dye Works Hand Dyed Cottons. Stitch count is 260 x 171 with a finished size of 14.44" x 9.5".
