Mary Vallack 1781 is a reproduction of an original sampler in our collection from the South West of England.

Mary Vallack came from a very noteworthy family in the parish of Maker, Cornwall, many of whom were seafarers, as you might expect from a coastal setting such as this. She stitched this beautiful sampler, demonstrating a variety of stitch types, at the age of 10 and has reflected many of the local aspects that would have been familiar to her, with shells, hooked lines and rope effects.

Our model was stitched with Weeks Dye Works threads on 36ct 'Beach Brew' by R & R Reproductions, which resulted in a design area of approximately 6 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches (16.5 x 24.8cm).

The speciality stitches in the pattern are; Algerian Eyelets, Roman Stitch, Queen Stitch, Satin Stitch and over one cross stitch - so this pattern is not suitable for stitching on Aida.
