I am pleased to introduce a new pattern! A French redwork marking sampler stitched by Rosalie Amphoux Vauvert. I love it for its small size and simple alphabets and numbers, some worked rather plainly and others quite prettily.

Pattern was stitched on 36 Alabaster from Weeks Dye Works using The Gentle Arts floss. Stitch count is 127w x 130h. Finished size is 7"w x 7.25"h.

Memorial Day was established on May 30, 1868 following the Civil War to honor fallen soldiers. It later evolved after World War I to honor all American military service members who died in war. This sampler has no name on it so I lovlingly, refer to it as the Black Cat sampler. I believe the original was crafted in England. There are two sets of initials on the sampler but I have not been able to determine if they are that of the stitchers.
