Isn't this a striking marking sampler! I had hoped to acquire it myself, but someone beat me to it - then, that someone' turned out to be a stitching friend right here in Clarksville! So now we can all benefit by the opportunity to stitch this ourselves. We're not sure about the re-ordering of the letters in the large alphabets, but all 26 are accounted for!
Pattern is stitched on 37 count Corn Tassel from Access Commodities using DMC threads. Stitch count is 278 x 214. Finished size is 15" x 11.6".
"Lord what is life tis like a flower That blofsoms and is gone We see it flourish for an hour With all its beauty on". This sampler is dated December 24, 1834. I was told this sampler was a Christmas gift to Louisa's parents. Louisa was 9 years old when she completed this brightly colored beauty.
