While we still have kits in stock with Perforated Paper, newer Mill Hill kits are now being made with Perforated PVC. We were skeptical at first, but here's what our testing has revealed so far:
1. Perforated PVC looks and feels nearly identical to perforated paper, and nothing like plastic canvas. It's sturdy and easy to hold, and is slightly harder to bend.
2. Our needle and thread glide just as smoothly through the new PVC as they do through paper, and finished stitches on both materials look nearly identical.
3. The new PVC is some sturdy stuff. It's much harder to tear than the paper, so you can pull your threads as tight as you want without having to worry about deforming holes or ripping. We also expect the PVC to be more resistant to decay and yellowing.
All in all, while (like many in the community) we were originally hesitant about this change, our first impressions have been very positive.

from United States on 09/21/2015 - Fabulous cross stitch kit I ordered the Scotland Santa because my family is of Scottish descent and also ordered the Wales Santa because my husband's family is from Wales. I plan to complete these projects in time to decorate for the Christmas holiday this year. My Scotland Santa is almost finished only the beading is left to do. I am reviewing this kit because I am SO impressed by the quality of Mill Hill products. Everything needed was included in the package. Instructions are clear. Mill Hill provided generous amounts of floss and beads and even sent such a large piece of perforated paper that my Santa worked out perfectly even though I didn't realize that the paper was taller than it was wide and I centered him and stitched the vertical design with the paper placed horizontally!!! That may not be clear, but suffice it to say I am a happy customer and will do many more Mill Hill Christmas ornaments. This kit is perfect for a travel project it fits in a carry on bag in a small pocket and requires only a thread cutter for the stitcher to stitch happily on the plane and in the airport. Thank you Mill Hill!!
