Item: SCTL-030
Type: Cross Stitch Patterns

A unique four-sided geometric border is the highlight of this American sampler, consisting of nine rows of letters and numerals surrounded by a counted satin stitch sawtooth inner border. The design looks like something that might have inspired the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian. I have not been able to definitively trace the genealogy of Emely C. Newman, but a possible trail of similar names and matching dates suggests perhaps a New Jersey origin. The materials used in the original sampler, homespun linen, and vegetable-dyed silk floss, are distinctly made in America. Stitches used in this sampler are cross, petit point (cross stitch over one thread of linen), and counted satin. On 32 count linen, the reproduction sampler will most closely approximate the size of the original at 11" x 14". The project is recommended for any level of skill.

I am delighted to share this antique with you. It is from 1840 of Dutch origin.
