This antique sampler immediately caught my eye simply because it was stitched in purple, my favorite color. There is something about a sampler worked in one solid color that I find so beautiful and timeless.
Model is stitched on 36 ct. linen with Gloriana silk floss. The stitch count is 116 x 116 and the finished size is 6.44" x 6.44".
Christian wrought her sampler sometime between 1800 and 1805, using a vibrant palette. The pattern includes a history of her family.
Pattern is stitched on 40 ct. Cedar River Maple Bar with Weeks Dye Works floss (DMC conversion included). The stitch count is 111 x 173 and the finished size is 5.55" x 8.65".

This delightful pair of English samplers are a low-cost stitch, as they are stitched entirely in DMC on "Vintage Country Mocha". I think they'd be wonderful to customize as birth samplers, or you could stitch the central motifs as pin-pillows.
All that is known of the sampler are the stitcher's initial - ES. The sampler appears to be English and from around the mid 19th Century.
