Cross Stitch PatternsJulia Rachel De La Mare, 1849, A Fuersney, Channel Island Sampler.
The Antique: This lovely vibrant sampler is in the style common to the time called Berlin Woolwork, named such after the printed patterns originating from Berlin where individual motifs such as florals, birds, the center cornucopia with flower blossoms, the wreathed cross with the Lamb of God below, were taken and arranged as the stitcher saw fit. Little Julia, aged only eight, had a creative eye and loved colors, often changing her thread colors in the vine and flowers of the exquisite border, and incorporating twenty-four gorgeous shades.
Pattern is stitched on 40 ct linen with Gentle Art, Classic Colorworks, and Weeks Dye Works threads. Stitch count is 220 x 231 with a finished size of 11" x 11.55".
