Closed Herringbone, Spiral Trellis, Algerian Eyelet, Backstitch over One, plus Tied Windmill, French Knot, Satin & Padded Satin Stitch, Tent Stitch, Queen Stitch, Diamond Eyelet, Rhodes & Diamond Rhodes Stitch.
A blending technique is used when working with specialty fibers.
Most specialty stitch areas may be substituted with full cross stitch if desired, except for over-one and backstitch sections, which should be stitched as charted.

from United States on 01/02/2026 - Beautiful Sampler This is my third Theresa Baird sampler. I used The Virginia Sampler as the base pattern for my 50th Wedding Sampler. I stitched it in dmc using her dmc colors. I only changed two colors.
My plan is to use The North Carolina Sampler as a Scottish Sampler to commemorate both sides of my family. I love the giant thistle. When I received the pattern I was disappointed the floss list is all silk threads with no dmc conversion. Also, the front cover is a poor photo with indistinct coloring. I haven’t been able to find a good representation of the sampler anywhere. The list of npi silks has no description of the colors which means I’ve had to research what the intended original colors were. That was not my experience with the Virginia Sampler and Norfolk Diligence. I don’t want to buy 81 skeins of silk floss when I prefer the colorfast dmc.
Conclusion: Miss Baird is a genius. I bought this pattern to capture that. I’m disappointed that I have additional work I didn’t expect. I’ve done half of my abbreviated border with the giant thistle and it is gorgeous. That thistle is why I bought the pattern.
